Reddit issues

So…while Reddit is full of spammers a genuine human like me can’t message people, and can’t leave comments. If I leave a comment, the mod says to message the person directly. I would, if I could!

How does one get out of this logical nightmare.

Is this because my Reddit account is new? And by that logic, then spamming becomes a function of age?
