Disappointed about not receiving a Christmas bonus this year, looking for perspective

Am I Overreacting? (Aka Reality Check Requested)

I’ve been with my current family for about 2.5 years, working part-time (3-4 days a week). I started with one infant and later took on a second child. Over the time I’ve been with them, they’ve been very “by the book” with nanny etiquette. I’ve received annual raises, a pay increase when a second child was added, and a Christmas bonus the past two years. I never had to ask for raises or bonuses, which I’ve always really appreciated.

Earlier this year, they gave me a surprise bonus just after my two year mark and also added additional PTO to my contract, which was very generous. Because of that, I’m wondering if they decided that bonus would replace a Christmas bonus this year.

That said, I didn’t receive a Christmas bonus this year and nothing was said about it. I’ve been off for the past week, and it wasn’t included in either paycheck before or after Christmas, so I’m assuming it’s not happening. I know bonuses are never guaranteed, but since it happened the last two years, I think I just assumed it would continue especially since my responsibilities increased this year (now caring for two young children), and my commute also became significantly longer after the family moved.

I’d never ask them for a bonus, and overall they really are kind, respectful employers. I think that’s partly why this is hitting harder. I wasn’t expecting to feel disappointed, but here I am.

I guess I’m just looking for perspective from other nannies: • Is it reasonable to assume the earlier bonus replaced Christmas? • Is this just one of those “bonuses aren’t guaranteed” moments I should accept and move on from? • Or is this something you’d quietly note as a shift in expectations going forward?

Thanks for letting me vent I truly do appreciate this family, I’m just feeling a little deflated.
