Do chefs irl actually stab cutting boards with the tip of the knife like in the movies?

A scene in ratatouille, the girl chef is cutting onions really fast on the board and then stabs the knife into the cutting board. She leaves it there with the tip stuck inside the cutting board.

Do chests do this in real life? Wouldn't this damage the knife?

Personally I could not spend money on a hundred dollar knife and feel like I am ruining the tip by doing this.
