African Camping Tours - Drifters or G Adventures

My wife and I are looking to do a month travelling through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe in April 2026.

We have been recommended twice to go with Drifters (sometimes referred to as African Overland Adventures) for 24-day camping trip. We have heard great reviews from these two friends who went with Drifters.

We however have stumbled upon G Adventures camping trip for the near-identical same route and its nearly half the price of Drifters.

We were wondering if anyone has any idea why the price might be so staggeringly different?

From what we have pieced together:

  • Drifters has (slightly) smaller groups compared to G Adventures
  • G Adventures has more solo travelers in the mid-20s age bracket
  • Drifters tour finishes in Johannesburg, whereas G Adventures finishes in Victoria Falls
  • Drifters is for 24 days, whereas G Adventures is 21 days

If it helps - we really want to be amongst nature and wildlife, and if it means we pay extra to get that experience (and properly pay local guides) we are happy to do that. But curious how the prices can be so different...
