Sight to the Blind

I can see the colors of a rainbow.
I see the vivid streak pierce the sea blue
Sky with vibrant violet and gold hues.
I see the orange cream petals on new
Honey filled flowers with amber and
Black striped bees buzzing through the sweet songs
Of morning birds. I see the warm, mellow
Yellow and red of a sunset’s smile
Over calm, turquoise, foamy water while
Sphere meets plane. I see grassy green meadows
Splattered with brown and grey. All day long,
Caterpillars crawling, foxes calling.
My eyes are heavy, not closed.

But why write when you can see?
Sunsets and rainbows have their own poets
Named blue, green, and gold. Giving colored seas
To umbral cold is my heart’s artistry. You can’t see in the darkness.
The ghosts that haunt in moonlit gloom as
Wolves prowl and howl. The monsters that lurk and
Drag head first behind veils of murk and
Shadow. Demons that choke you in your bed
Before you fall asleep. I wish I’d said
The beauty that I see around me, but what
I don’t see is the point. When you can
Use your eyes better than I describe,
I’d rather give words to the ineffable.
To all that defy our sense and senses.
And so my poems stay harsh and dark and
Inaccessible, forever under lenses.
One day maybe I will see the charm
Behind gushing over false pretenses.
But until then I’ll give sight to the blind.
Even if it never ends in cheers.
