What gift/supplies from America or Japan should I bring to a local Italian?

A family friend is hosting my wife (who’s in Japan) and me in February. I understand that most anything is accessible online.

Still, what can I bring as a formal gift from either the US or Japan that’s rare in Italy? Also I intend to bring food ingredient, OTC medicine etc that may not be available in the EU

Thanks
