First time car for a city dweller (15k CAD or less)

Live in the middle of a city and have never owned a car before. I've relied on bikes and public transit, so I don't know too much about cars. I work from home so I don't have a daily commute. It would be mainly used for longer road trips (5 hours+) a few times a year, weekend trips out of the city, and some regular errands. I'd like something as fuel efficient and reliable as possible, for the price. Ideally, something small enough to easily park in the city, but large enough fit some gear for camping, etc. Something that can handle snow and trails would be ideal. Leaning towards maybe a Subaru.
