Trip Delay on cancelled second leg
Hi folks,
Sorry for yet another Trip Delay Insurance question. I browsed the sub and wasn’t able to find my exact question and read through the Benefits Guide / T&C on Trip Delay but I’m unsure about the specifics so wondering if folks had any datapoints.
Was on a united flight from LGA -> ORD -> EAU. I left for ORD and when I was in the air the second leg got cancelled. Whole flight booked on one itinerary with CSR. It looks like United won’t be able to book me to Eau Claire until two days from now—I understand the trip delay insurance would kick in here if I took this option. If instead I refunded the second leg of the trip via United and decided to drive back using a rental car, based on the wording of the T&C it sounds like this would not be covered by the insurance (also found a reddit post saying something similar). Okay so last question then is would the Trip Delay kick in if I asked United to rebook me onto a flight to a different city nearby EAU? I could then stay the night until that flight in the morning.
Wasn’t sure if there was a requirement about keeping the same destination. Nothing about it in the benefits guide from what I can tell but seeing if anyone has any data points and trying to evaluate the options available to me. Thanks all and happy holidays!
