Rat exploded in fridge & potentially contaminated everything

Parasite Concern

I tagged this as “parasite concern” because it’s one of many concerns I could see with this situation…

Long story short, a rat exploded in my parent’s fridge over the holidays (actually have no idea how long it’s been in there for). Somehow, they didn’t notice that the yellow liquid that’s *apparently* been in their fridge for a hot minute was coming from the carcass of an exploded rat. Seems like it managed to get into the wires & blew itself up. But anyways, the rat went unnoticed all the while my parents were feeding us all Christmas dinner from that fridge….

Anyways, my question is this: when you google diseases to test for/monitor for after rat exposure, all of the results are centered around diseases that spread through feces/urine/hair/parasites/etc… like what you’d be exposed to by a living rat (or one that died a normal way). But are there any additional medical concerns we should test/monitor for, given the exposure of all the food in the fridge to an *exploded* rat - ie exposure to its insides. Google doesn’t really account for situations like that.

Also just gonna clarify that I do not live there, for my post history’s sake. I personally would never let my fridge get anywhere near that point, and frankly I’m disturbed. But I’m not posting to judge my parents - just to make sure me & my family take whatever precautions we should be taking. I appreciate any advice.
