Advice on working with Angora?

How to use _____ ?

What should I know about working with angora?

I was gifted two skeins of “Silky Angora” Lane Bergosesia (40% silk, 40% angora, 20% lambs wool) ~sport weight, three ply. I was planning on making the “Sirus cowl” by Helene Magnusson, using US5 needles instead of the US4 it calls for, since that’s the size I have metal circulars in. As I started casting on to swatch (determine if I should change the number of repeats), I noticed that this yarn sticks to itself really well and there’s probably no chance of reusing any swatch yarn. So I’m thinking of skipping the swatch.

If it looks on track to be a reasonable size and a nice fabric, keep going.

If it looks like it’s headed in a direction or size I don’t like, stop, try to frog, and if that doesn’t work, use the remainder of the first skein to swatch for another pattern.

I have decent technical skills as a knitter (or at least the confidence of an engineer: “I can read the manual and figure it out!”), but little knowledge/experience working with different fiber types beyond sheepswool or knowledge about how spinning affects yarn behavior.
