AIO thinking a monetary gift given to a couple should be shared?

So I have a question for all of you. One of our Christmas gifts from his parents was a check. I presumed we’d split it evenly. Since the check was made out in his name, I asked later in the day if he could electronically deposit our check and send me half. It was as if a dark cloud descended on his face and he scowled at me. I’m used to this look when he disagrees with something I’ve said (yes, I’m married to a narcissist who emotionally manipulates and abuses me—but don’t worry I’m leaving him in 6 months if everything I’m planning works out). Through clenched teeth he firmly replied, no. When I asked why, he (not unexpectedly) become angry and defensive, reminding me of when I was short a couple of months ago in my contribution to household expenses. I’d reminded him of the surprise deduction from my account. A large medical co-pay had been taken out of my account, even though I’d asked the doctor’s office if I could pay in installments. Guess they hadn’t been able to ask before the withdrawal had been made. But regardless, I had less money to contribute. Yes, we have separate finances and it’s been that way for years. He said this check made up for it. So I just shut down and said nothing because I knew it would only result in another fight. This is the stage I’m at in emotionally checking out of our marriage. This man makes six figures and I’ll never make as much. He’s in IT and I’m an educator. So my question is, was it too much to ask for half of the check (and yes, my in-laws love me as I love them) as the envelope had both our names, even though it was made out only to him? In the spirit of Christmas, couldn’t he have given me half, even though I’d been short ONE of my bi-monthly contributions? TIA for your takes on this.
