"MUSTARD!!!" - Why GNX by Kendrick Lamar is objectively the worst album ever.
In 2024, Patrick Mahomes brought home his 3rd title to the championship deprived Kansas City stadium. Kendrick Lamar had a chance to do the same thing for Compton. After GKMC and TPAB, GNX was poised to be another west coast classic. 2 minutes and 5 seconds into "tv off" and any hopes of rap's dark knight lighting up the city of Gotham - ahem, I mean Compton - are put into question. One "squabble up" listening later and the hopes are destroyed.
Let's start with the most obvious problem with this album: Not Like Us.
Wop wop wop wop wop, dot fucked this album up. The popularity of his diss on Drake prompted a follow up album. This is bad. This is like the United States winning WW2 and being like, "fuck it, we run Asia. Let's go invade Vietnam". That did not turn out well for America. Neither did GNX turn out well for Kendrick.
The second most obvious problem: Kendrick Lamar has become a teenage boy.
Have you ever texted a child on snapchat? If you have, you notice that they "type like ts bruh." Weird abbreviations and everything is in lowercase. Kendrick Lamar does the same thing too! Every track listing is in lowercase and the featuring artists have names that probably replicate their gamertags. Kendrick, if you're reading this, you suck.
To close up this analysis of GNX by Kendrick Lamar, I think it's important to note that I have never listened to this album. Despite this, it's awful. And I say this as a true Kendrick fan.
See you next time!
