Is it possible to DMing a 5e if i have never played this edition?

I'm a newbie D&D player. I started with 3.5e and has been playing for half a year now. Just DMed my first oneshot using 3.5e rule yesterday, and it was suuuper fun, had a great time with my player. But 1 of the player (someone who has more experience in D&D than me) said that 5e is easier to play and DM than 5e. The thing is... i've never played a 5e session before, so i have no experience with it. So should i give it a try and DM a 5e game, or should i just stick with 3.5e, the edition that i'm more familiar with?
