Buying New Skates: a Rant.
44 year old beer leaguer here. Been playing since I was 13. I don't play high level. But my B league team is 35+ and we're mid pack in an 8 team league with the majority of teams being in their 20s. So we move quick and keep up. I like to be competitive.
I've owned a total of 4 pairs of skates over my life.
Bauer Chargers
Bauer Air 30s
Easton Synergy 500s
CCM Super Tacks 9370s
My super tacks just shit out on me by means of a disconnected tendon guard.
Fuck they were awesome skates. First pair of new style one piece boot I've ever owned.
Been trying to shop for new skates over the last 24 hours and noticed a few things:
-
I wear the same size feet as everyone else and everything on sale is sold out in my size
-
I can't make sense of the model hierarchy of the CCM line.
-
I ain't spending $800 on skates.
-
I ain't spending less than $400 on new skates.
-
I really don't know what features I want in a new skate
Anywho. All seems complicated on something you're going to spend ~$500 on for new skates without even trying them on ice.
Kicker is that I spend like $250 on new steel (2 sets of step steel) last season for the 9370s. So I am kind of anchored to the CCM line
tl;dr: buying new gear mid season at age 44 sucks lol
