What is the dumbest invention ever and why is it HPM downlights?

Seriously, whatever happened to simply changing a light bulb. Who was the complete idiot who thought it was a good idea to give these things their own power plug? And more importantly, why is it impossible to remove a flaky one without destroying the bloody ceiling?
