Paying phone off but porting line out

Hi folks,

Last month I got a new iPhone 17 and opened my first line with Verizon after porting my number in, its a 36 month device pay off.

Question, after the device is unlocked, can i port my number out and use the device elsewhere? But keep paying the device charges only, and have no line active, essentially no plan charges?
