Custom board for a friend

I've been working on a gift for my friend; a custom Catan board to jazz up our games a little bit.

I wanted a bit of feedback, as I've been getting really bogged down with making the finishing touches... I still have road pieces, settlements and cities to make, and I'd like to make some border tiles with sand and water as well as docks for the boats.

What do y'all think? What else can I add? The desert tile needs something more I think, not sure what though.
