Warranty lenght for console - store dependand?

My brother bought his xbox directly from microsoft store and it was added onto his account with 2 years warranty. I bought mine (both are series x) in third party electronics shop and when i registered my console it has only 1 year of warranty. Is it normal? Does microsoft give bonus 1 year warranty for consoles bought directly from them?
