Mechanical engineering or Mathematics?

Would you recommend pursing BSc in Mech Eng or doing a BSc in Mathematics and then a masters to work in something financial?

I'm wondering if mechanical will be not much designing and more maintenance or hands-on fixing things. Also, I'm concerned about the salary.
