using a flea comb made fleas worse
my cat has been itchy for the past week. once i noticed he had a flea crawling on him i got a flea comb and removed as many as i could find. in hindsight, i should not have used said flea comb in my room. i was drowning the fleas in hot water and soap, but i know some jumped away and i have been getting BIT UP in my bed. my cat is now on flea medicine, he has not been itching and seems to be fine, but now i’m the one getting bit up!
we have a dog who has been on flea medicine for years, but when i checked her for fleas, i did not see any. i have NEVER had this problem before. i have never had to deal with fleas, so this has been so frustrating and gross for me. my cat doesn’t go outside and i just don’t understand how they’ve been introduced to my cat. he likes to look out of the window above my bed and maybe they got through the screen, but i have no idea if that’s possible.
i removed all my bedding, all blankets (i had 5 blankets on my bed and i could see them burrowing into the blankets), i’ve been vacuuming extensively around my room, especially on the mattress and the rug in my room.
when do i need to consider an extermination? i do not see any visible fleas or eggs now, but i am genuinely scared to sleep in my bed. i don’t want to put bedding back onto my bed until i know they are effectively removed, but i genuinely don’t know how to tell.
