Activating sim on old phone

My parents switched over to verizon with the 4 lines for 100 deal. They did this in another state and dont get back for another week. The esim is now active on the new phone and I currently dont have service on my old phone. Are there any fees or issues if I activate an esim on my old phone then activate it again when i get the new phone in a week? Or should I just get a data only plan in the meantime and wait it out?
