Having a sensitive psyche.

I can’t stand how careful I have to be with my interactions with people. Even on Reddit, I don’t feel totally assured that I’m not going to have a negative social interaction. Yesterday I made a post that gained traction, and there were many critical comments against me. Usually I am fine with that, and I can take criticism moderately well. But in that instance, I felt a very visceral sensation of being ganged up on and berated in a public square. I really could not handle the discourse I had prompted, and I cried a lot that evening re-reading some of the harsher comments. Some people had asked questions that warranted a response from me, but returning to my post was daunting so I just left it alone.

I wish I wasn’t such a sensitive person. I don’t think many people on Reddit or social media would say their intent is to destroy my sense of self-worth when they make a critical or harsh comment, but it happens anyway. I definitely could use some tools to deal with that when a group of people decides I’ve done or said something wrong. Being able to say “Thank you, have a nice day” and move on without having an utter meltdown.
