HVAC guys came out- no credentials
I had an 8am appointment today to replace my Rheem furnace and AC. Both units are working; I just wanted to be proactive and replace them since they are 25 yrs old.
The sales guy with whom I had met the previous week was upstanding and the price was just under 18k. It was in line with a different company that had also given me a bid.
Two young men showed up 1.25 hours late without all the parts. One was 19, the other 25. Both had on the job training; neither had any HVAC certification or taken classes. One had 1 yr. OTJ training, the other was vague.
I asked if they had a lead coming; they said no.
I canceled the job based on 1. They were late. 2. They arrived without all the parts. 3. Neither had HVAC certification or had taken classes. 4. I was under the impression that an expensive job required formal training.
My question is: what is the recommended certification level of a lead installer for a new furnace and AC in a 25 year old home? Was I just in backing out of the job due to the reasons listed above?
I’m a widow and didn’t want to make a mistake with uncertified young men .
