Night Time Potty Training
Need some advice night time potty training my son who is 6.5 and level 2 asd (also getting a diagnosis for adhd). He is potty trained for the daytime and has very rare accidents (maybe 2-3 times per year). But everytime his schedule changes (like during school breaks) he has regression.
He has previously started his own night training twice by either getting up once at night or staying dry throughout the night. The last time he did this was two years ago but we moved in the middle of it so he stopped cold turkey. We should’ve pushed him to keep going but we didn’t.
Now we are at the point that he relies on a pull up and just doesn’t want to get up at night to go to the bathroom. I think overtime he is just going to dig in his heels worse. So over this school breaks we told him we were going to start night training. We got him a bed wetting alarm and showed him what it did and explained he needed to go to the bathroom when it went off. It hasn’t been going great because he is fully drenching the bed and not stopping the flow when the alarm goes off.
I was talking to him more about it today and he basically told me (in his own way) that he just wants to rely on the alarm from here on out because he doesn’t want to wake himself up when he goes potty. So I dont know if the alarm is really going to do anything. Has anyone gone through this and successfully night trained? Any advice?
