What would you do about this rental situation as a tenant?
What would you do?
The apt. I rent was sold to a new landlord and he changed property management companies. It has been not great. The previous owner/pm was bad, but this one is worse. They never respond to anything except for outright emergencies (thankfully they do that) and immediately raised rent by the max amount allowed by law.
I don't plan on moving because finding a place is hard, especially on a low income.
Getting to the question - my lease expired so I have been living on a month to month tenancy. So far, this suites me fine but I don't really understand if this is a good option.
Recently the new prop. management office offered me a lease renewal and I was considering signing it for peace of mind but then I noticed.... they totally fibbed about my deposit. The deposit amount on the new lease says I paid more than $1,000 LESS than what I actually paid.
So, I provided receipts and told them I couldn't sign the lease until this was fixed. They agreed to do that and send me over a new lease.
But I just haven't got one. It's been almost a month now.
My question is - would you push for a new lease or would you just keep going month to month?
I am a bit confused about the cost v benefits here.
Thank you.
