Writing Sample Help for Editorial Internship.

I’m applying for an editorial internship and they are asking for writing sample. I understand what they are asking/what it is and I have numerous essays and research papers to use. I’m more wondering what it should look like? Such as how many samples should I use and how many words/pages should be in the sample?

Thanks.
