i built a bot that scrapes trending tiktok videos and reposts them as youtube shorts.
hi, so for the past month or so ive been working on this little script that runs 24/7 on my vps that, every single day about 5-6 times a day, it checks for the latest trending tiktokok video from the Explore page (tiktokcom/explore). this is built using playright and python3 to simulate a human going to the Explore page, and clicking on the very first video and then it copies the link. after it has the link of the most trending video, it checks from its own database if it has saved that video before. if it has, then it goes into standby until 15 minutes where it checks the most trending video again. after it finds a unique video, it uses yt-dlp to download it in the source quality, and then it posts it using the title of the video and then "| @username on TikTok" at the end to give credit to the original posters. lmk what yall think about this project!
