How to get a PIR number after you've left the airport?

My suitcase was damaged and rendered unusable after my flight with SAS. I took pictures of the damage at the airport but wasn't familiar enough with the PIR process to know that I had to file it at the airport. When I got home, I filed a report with SAS and their customer agent kept circling back to the PIR number. Does anyone have any recommendations for next steps?
