Has anyone elses parents or in laws been radicalised by GB News?
I first met my in laws 11 years or so ago, and saw them over Christmas and me and my husband noticed how much they have changed since they started to watch GB news daily. They've always been politically engaged with somewhat differing views to us, but we could barely have a conversation without his dad spewing a load of right wing garbage he'd been fed from GB news and the Daily Mail.
Topics included:
- Immigrants at the route of all problems of the UK.
- All people who claim welfare are spongers.
- Free school meals need to stop
I was even talking about my son's birth (at an NHS hospital) where there was some confusion about what to do due to a sudden bleed. He thought it appropriate to say "I bet she (my midwife) was an an immigrant". When I explained she wasn't, he then questioned her qualifications. We were just in disbelief.
It's been going on for a while, including getting sent rasist, sexist and outright false information/memes in family groups from him.
He's a becoming aggressive in how he communicates with us, lacks any ability to question information and is so narrow minded.
My husband came home really quiet and disappointed that his parents could fall victim to this nonsense given they are educated, smart people. He's lost a lot of respect for them and said he doesn't want to spend time around them if they are like that.
Ia anyone else experiencing it? We were fact checking the utter nonsense he was proclaiming, but he just disregarded us and was massively over generalising every problem.
