How do you heal when every setback feels like starting over?

I’m really struggling with how to rebuild trust in my marriage after it’s been broken.

We’ve had hurt in the past that we’re trying to heal from, but it feels like every time we start making progress, something happens that reopens the wound or resets the healing. It puts me right back into the same emotional place, even when I don’t want to be there.

I want to move forward. I want peace. I want to trust again. But my body and emotions seem stuck in protection mode, and it makes me feel like I’m going crazy or sabotaging the growth even though I’m trying so hard not to.

How do couples rebuild trust after it’s been broken?

And how do you heal when the past keeps getting triggered by the present?

I’m not looking to place blame I genuinely want to understand what healthy rebuilding actually looks like and how to stop feeling stuck in this cycle.

tl;dr: Trust was broken in my marriage, and even when we try to heal, setbacks keep reopening the hurt. How do couples rebuild trust and move forward when the past keeps getting triggered?
