Zombie books that are more community focused or

In most of the zombie books I have read, I kinda find it hard to feel for the characters like I do in my other favorite books. They are usually fun in an entertainment sense, but a lot of times I feel they lack in more human elements.

Like WWZ is great and probably my favorite zombie book, but the whole individual character stories makes it pretty much impossible to care about the characters in any emotional way.

I am currently reading the TWD comic books, which is basically exactly what I'm asking about, but I was wondering if there are any book series that are similar.
