Have Vtubers become the new Furries?

Alright, so over the years we know how the Furry community has been treated and only recently has "some" of ire towards that community been toned down.

Now with the streamer awards BS Vtubers and Vtubing have become under the same hatred from (for lack of better term) "normies" just like the furry community has for years. At least that's how I'm viewing it.

My entire perception of this is probably entirely off but the comparisons are there in terms of how the "normies" view it.
Things like:
-sexualization/fetishizing
-not showing face/hiding
-spending lots of money to live a fantasy life
