Welcome to Teacher Retirement - Read This First

If you’re a teacher trying to make sense of retirement decisions, you’re in the right place.

This community exists to help teachers better understand pensions, 403(b) and 457 plans, survivor benefits, Roth vs traditional decisions, and retirement timing. These choices often feel confusing, rushed, or poorly explained, especially as retirement gets closer.

The goal here is simple: clarity before decisions become permanent.

A few things to set expectations:

  • This is an education-first space
  • Questions are encouraged, regardless of where you are in your career
  • There are no sales pitches here
  • No one will DM you unless you ask for it

You don’t need to share personal details to participate. General questions, hypothetical scenarios, and “can someone explain this?” posts are all welcome.

If you’re not sure where to start, a good first post is:

  • how far you are from retirement
  • what system you’re in (CalSTRS, TRS, URS, etc.)
  • what decision is confusing or stressful right now

You’re not behind. Most teachers were never given clear explanations in the first place.

Welcome.
