2019 Sorento burning oil...am I screwed?
2019 Sorento EX V6 3.3L GDI engine. I estimate it burns a quart of oil every 970 miles. No leaks on the ground. No smoke out the exhaust. Took it to an independent shop (my local dealership sucks), they said the spark plugs are black, indicating oil is leaking into the combustion chamber. For the most part, the car seems to run fine, though the idle is starting to have increasing mild (so far) rough spots at slightly increasing frequency.
Looking at the various Kia/Hyundai class action lawsuits, it looks like my vehicle year and/or engine size isn't covered (only 2.4L, not 3.3L).
There is a Technical Service Bulletin ENG222 that says if oil consumption is more than 1 qt per 1000 miles (and I'm right on the cusp of that), then the engine ultimately could be replaced under warranty.
And here's the kicker. Car is 6 years old, mileage is 82,000. Powertrain warranty is 120 months/100k miles for original owner (so this issue would be covered), or 60 months/60k miles for subsequent owners (and this issue would not covered).
And I'm not the original owner. :-( When I bought it, it was 5 months old, 1677 miles. Though I'm 98% the original owner for all practical purposes.
So...any suggestions to avoid the expense of a new engine out of pocket? Replace gaskets...replace PCV valve...use restore & protect oil...ask Kia for an accommodation since I purchased the car before its first scheduled oil change...?
Thanks.
