CD player isn't playing

So, I recently received a cd/radio player from my grandma. It is a Memorex, the model number says MP8211GP and it also says PORTABLE CD BOOMBOX WITH AM/FM RADIO. It was manufactured in November 2012. The problem with the player is that when I close the top, the display goes blank then goes back to - -, as if i opened back up the top, when clearly I didn't. I also noticed the laser would move forward, then instantly move back after I close it. I also cleaned the laser with a q tip and alcohol, that didn't work, is there anything I can do to fix it, or do I need a new player? I recorded a video showing what's wrong with the player if my explanation didn't help
