Marty Supreme Vs Rushmore

About halfway through the movie it struck me…the Marty Mauser character seemed to borrow extremely heavily from Jason Schwartzman’s character in Rushmore. The older love interest in particular reinforced this feeling for me. I thought the movie was great, but it seemed so similar to the vibe of Rushmore to me i was a bit taken aback. Anyone else?
