Flu Type A, WBC count

We are in the US. He has all his vaccinations, we just moved and I had not gotten him vaccinated for the flu though that was my intention. I have a five year old male child, he is rough 55lbs. He is white, he takes a multivitamin everyday and a probiotic. He had recurrent ear infections when he was 1-1.5 and ear tubes were placed. He has been treated one time in the past for strep.

In the beginning of December he started to have a dry cough that he now has had for almost a month. Most of the time is has been a dry cough but it has sounded wet at times. After 1.5 weeks of the cough, I took him to his pediatrician on 12/19. They tested him for Covid, Flu A and B, and Strep. All the rapids came back negative. On 12/24 he started to become febrile. His temp has gotten as high as 102.7. Tylenol has not been very effective in bringing the fever down but I still have given him Tylenol and Motrin. We went to Urgent Care on 12/27 and a chest x ray was done and there was mild interstitial prominences noted on the chest x-ray. A one time dose of 10MG Decadron was given. He was tested for Strep again and it came back negative.

I took him back to the ER 12/29. He is still spiking high fevers and still has a runny nose and cough. At the ER we did blood work, chest x ray and checked his urine. He chest x -ray showed bronchitis/bronchiolitis. They did not think it was RSV. He was swapped for the Flu again and tested positive for type A flu. His lab work showed WBC: 3.7 RBC: 4.06 HGB:11.0. Ovalocytes: 1+ and Burr Cells: 1+. The ER doc called one of the peds docs and he was not concerned about the Ovalocytes and Burr Cells and wants us to come back in 4-6 weeks to recheck labs.

I am just concerned about his WBC being low and having to continue to fight an infection. I did try to get him in to see his pediatrician and they have no openings.
