Defensemen not playing defense

Is there a setting I messed up or soemthing, I have defensemen fleeing the zone when I get the puck on a PK, I have wingers playing d. I have patrick kane dropping off a rush to let chara ahead of him. I really don't understand whats going on, I have been having a lot of issues with the game recently and this on top of that is making it unplayable. It barely even counts as hockey.
