Quran teacher Experience, Share yours!
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and just needed to get it off my chest.
When I was younger, I had a Quran teacher who, on the surface, seemed like an okay guy. He could be nice sometimes. But when it came to teaching, especially because I was a slow learner, things were really bad.
I genuinely struggled back then. I needed repetition, time, and patience. I had to keep going back to the basics again and again. I was trying my best, but because I wasn’t picking things up quickly, he would beat me a lot. Like… a lot. Slapping me, hitting my head, my cheeks. It wasn’t just “scolding,” it was physical.
On top of that, he would complain to my father about me not reading well, which led to more pressure and scolding at home. I was made to feel like my father said I was wasting money or not putting in effort, when in reality, I was trying as hard as I could. I just learned differently.
Fast forward to now: I have a female Quran teacher, and the difference is night and day. She’s kind, patient, and actually teaches. If I make a mistake, she gently corrects me instead of humiliating me. It’s online, I sometimes join late, and she doesn’t make a big deal out of it. There’s no fear.
And guess what? I’m learning better now. I’m reading better. I don’t feel stupid or anxious. I started reading again last year, and honestly… I’m doing pretty well. I’m proud of myself.
Looking back makes me sad, though.
I’m not posting this for pity. If you’ve had a similar experience, share your story or experience down below :))))
