Raw beeswax application

A local farmer/apiarist is selling honey and beeswax collected from their hives. The beeswax appears to be in blocks like bars of soap. My question is how do you work with this for waxing cutting boards and utensils? Do you warm/melt it into a liquid? Do you mix it with anything? Do you rub it on as is and just buff it out?
