Do you turn into Superwoman when in chaos that requires focus?

General Question/Discussion

I have heard that with ADHD, one of our superpowers (not for all people) is that we can focus during an alarming or scary, even dangerous situation. Our brains go into cool, calm and collected mode naturally.

I have experienced this many times over the years, where something horrible happens and everyone is freaking out and losing their minds except me. I first noticed when I was in a car accident- the driver hit gravel on side of highway and we spun like a top. While we spun and hit guardrails I was so focused, I thought to myself put your arms here in case windshield smashes, brace your head and neck, etc. It's like it was all slow motion and I had the ability to clearly think about the scenario and what I needed to do to keep myself safe. Like I had all the time in the world and I could weigh my options, meanwhile it was probably 10 seconds and super scary.

Ive had a few other experiences, same thing in a chaotic moment and I was cool as a cucumber and able to think and asses things easily. Normally my brain is a ball of rubber bands but in fearful times I am so on the ball and focused. No fear, no stress, no anxiety...not like my typical days. lol.

Side note: My great, great aunt saved a plane with hijackers in it back in the 70's, I often wonder if she had adhd and thats what gave her the strength and focus to save all those lives in such a terrifying scenario.

Have you guys experienced this?
