Clothes hampers are for dirty clothes and laundry baskets are for clean clothes.

There’s one invention called a clothes hamper and you put dirty clothes in it. There’s a completely distinct concept, known as a laundry basket, and you use it to transport clean clothes. When you put dirty laundry in something you smear it with your body oils, residues of all kinds, bacteria, dead skin cells…. Generally, if you put clean clothes in a hamper or a basket you used for dirty clothes, to me that feels as lazy as putting an empty bag of chips back into your pantry or transporting groceries from your car into your house using a trash can. To complete the analogy, for people who believe using a dirty laundry basket to transport freshly cleaned clothes is harmless, then I would say your trash can should be pretty clean for storing food because there’s usually a bag in it, so why not use that?

To be clear, this isn’t something I lecture people about or anything, just something I adhere to in my own life. No judgment. To each their own, but I’ve never met anyone else that agrees with me on this.
