Friend cannot use duo emotes or target others.

I have been playing this game with my friend since launch day. We do a lot of coop and are in a Partnership. Problem is she hasn't been able to use any of the duo emotes on me, or others. After further investigation turns out she doesn't even have the G above players heads when she looks at them. Idk if this is part of the issue but I'm stumped, I've even tried asking on discord with no success.
