Listening audio set up advice

General Request

Hi all, I’ve done some research and come back to here for more context and questions. We changed our upstairs/former attic space from an office to a music and kid area.

Dimensions of slanted attic upstairs space:

Width: 144.5 inches

Height: 87 inches

Hight from floor to before slope: 41.5 inches

Length: 360.5 inches

Current set up:

DJ set up:

- 2 Technics 1200s, recently serviced with Ortofon Concorde Club needles (one mk1, one mk2) into a Pioneer DJM-250 mkII on the side of the room. - - -Bookshelf Yamaha HS8’s on sound iso-acoustic stands. They picked up a TON of feedback from a cell tower nearby, now silent when I wrapped them in tin foil. I’ve done some basic sound treatment through reading and Reddit.

Budget: $1500

How will it be used: For a relaxing listening space. Sometimes to DJ in with kids.

What I’m looking for:

  1. Warmer, passive, maybe more compact bookshelf speakers. The HS8’s are too overpowering for the space. I can’t get a good sound until they’re too loud. I know they’re flat on purpose but still. Maybe something by DALI like the Oberon 3’s.

  2. Add a subwoofer to round out the bass.

  3. A cartridge for listening. Maybe Audio Technica or Nagaoka.

  4. A simple amp, maybe even second hand that I can sometimes run the DJ mixer with but mostly for the turntables for listening.

*The kids are really good around the turntables and speakers. They can all put records on themselves.

Thanks!
