Is is bad to ask if anyone wants more wine at a table when they have a bottle?

So typically if it's just a family or smaller table I'll ask of anyone wants more when when they get a bottle awhile after the first pour and when they get a new course. For larger tables or one with multiple members I do go around and ask individually.

I had a 5 top last night and a lady who was the members daughter inlaw told me to always just pour the wine and the person will refuse if they don't want anymore. She said it could offend people by asking.

Is she right? I asked my manager on the floor (who tbh is the most laid back) and he said there was nothing wrong with asking instead of just assuming they want more.
