What do you think of this apology from a therapist? Wouldn’t this piss you off?
I confronted my therapist about how it made me angry that she got loud with me when I told I didn’t like that she emphasized in a session how length of stay was a long time (hospitalization) & a dose of medication was “a lot” in a rude way. She said in response, I like how candid you’ve gotten that something isn’t working for you. When I later readdressed the remark, she tried to cover up the remark and say it was regards to me sharing my mental health journey, when it was really her coming down on me.
Later, there was an email exchange where I re-addressed the remark and other stuff that felt crappy. She said in response, I’m sorry, that was never my intent. It seems despite my earnest efforts I am missing the mark and even hurt your feelings. Is this your way of saying our work together isn’t shaping up? I care about you and whats best for you/want to support whatever decision you make. Don’t you think the apology feels convoluted and manipulative?
She also recommended a different modality due to some dissatisfaction and even said the importance of exploring other options. Now, that I’m vetting out other therapists and talking about intake calls with other therapists, she seems salty and said some remark in a session, the quest to find the perfect therapist.
Also, she has a practice and the other therapists do EMDR (what we’ve been working on together). I asked about the other therapists in her practice and if they do EMDR. She then told me other therapists in her practice don’t do EMDR when it says on their profiles they do. Is this a mistake on her part? I think she’s legit lying because why would you say someone in your therapy practice offers services but then doesn’t?
