red flags starting off in the field, is this the norm?
I’m starting out as a behavior technician. I’ve signed on with 3 organizations which in hindsight wasn’t a great start but I wanted to explore my options and see the perks of each.
I have my first ever case starting next week, and the organization has already violated the code of ethics (I believe). They’ve sent me multiple emails to my personal email with full name and address of the client. Not great, but multiple of the orgs I’ve signed up with seem to communicate via personal, unencrypted email/text so am wondering if it’s just a commonly broken law?
Since this is my first ever case and between the 3 organizations I’ve signed up with and starting the RBT training I…have enough for very basic knowledge of what I’m supposed to do— I asked the BCBA to be there for the first session. I’ve now found out she’ll be there virtually for a portion of the session.
I overall have not great vibes about the company — seem unorganized, I’ve had to tell different people the same info and people will call and need me to urgently do something or commit quickly. It also has the vibes of I’m going to have to chase down people to get my required supervision hours which stresses me out. These are the red flags I’ve noticed so far but I feel like the entire field is a bit disorganized so maybe this is just the standard and I need to lower my expectations? Would love to hear others’ thoughts.
Pro about this case is it’s fairly close to me — I have limited transport access so am a bit limited by things I can reach on public transit. The other two orgs haven’t offered anything closer than a 45 min drive from me. I also have been job searching for months so was excited to have something lined up and don’t wanna go back to the drawing board again. The case starts in a week and I am supposed to give 2 weeks notice, so not sure if I can even back out now. So do I give it a shot and see how it goes? Or cancel before I start?
