Any Stories That Delve Deeper Into The "Adventurer's Guild" Concept

Any stories that go further than using it sd a plot device to get the protagonist to go somewhere or get stronger.

Maybe it's politics since the existence of a guild that can kind of control what are essentially mercenaries will inevitably have political power. Is the Adventurer's Guild a threat in the eyes of the nation's king?

What are it's logistics? Why does it exist beyond plot reasons? How big does a town need to be to have it's own branch? How often do monster attacks happen for them to be useful? Do the Adventurer's do other jobs due to a lack of them? Do they do manual labor since they are strong able bodied people? How are these distributed among ranks? What does it make the lower ranks feel?

And so on.
