Pets know when we’re hurting
After everything Shadow went through, I started noticing the little things. Since recovering from parvo, Shadow has become incredibly attentive. He follows us from room to room, checks in when someone is quiet, and seems to sense moods before we say a word. It’s like surviving something so serious made him even more gentle and aware. One evening, I was sitting on the couch feeling overwhelmed and trying not to cry. Shadow jumped up beside me, rested his head on my chest, and stayed there completely still. No prompting, no treats—just comfort. It honestly surprised me how intentional it felt. Moments like that make me think pets understand us far more than we give them credit for. They may not speak our language, but they’re incredibly tuned in to our emotions. I’d love to hear from other pet parents: What’s a small moment with your pet that made you feel truly understood?….
