My Experience With Outlier After Earning over $2K
Hey everyone! I wanted to share an honest, updated overview of my experience with Outlier since I’ve seen a lot of questions and skepticism about it.
I’ve been working from home for about a year now, using a mix of remote platforms. When I first signed up for Outlier, I didn’t stick with it because the tasks I had access to were paying around $15/hr, which was lower than what I was earning elsewhere. At the time, it just didn’t feel worth it.
That changed for a while when I got access to $30/hr projects. During that period, it became a solid source of side income. I previously shared that I had made over $1,000 in a month, eventually passing $2,000 in total earnings. At one point, I even made about $800 in a single week. That was some time ago now, but it was genuinely helpful while it lasted.
Unfortunately, over the last few months, things have slowed down significantly. Especially after Meta acquired them, the amount of available work has been minimal, with very few projects and long periods of inactivity. As a result, I honestly don’t recommend the platform at this point. It was good while it lasted, but right now it’s just not reliable or consistent enough to count on.
For anyone unfamiliar, Outlier is a platform where you help train AI by evaluating model responses or contributing data based on your skills. They offer roles in areas like STEM, languages, bilingual work, voice acting, and generalist tasks that don’t require a technical background. They’ve also added onboarding videos, webinars, and a project marketplace, which should be helpful, but none of that really matters if there’s no work available.
Some people have questioned whether Outlier is a scam, which I understand. From my experience, it’s legit in terms of payouts, but legitimacy doesn’t equal consistency. Weekly Tuesday payouts were always reliable when work was available.
At this point, I wouldn’t suggest signing up expecting a steady income. Hopefully, things change, and more projects roll out again, but until then, I’d treat Outlier as a “check back later” platform rather than something to actively rely on.
I’ve also set up a Discord community (3K+ members) for anyone who wants to get into remote work, learn how to qualify for projects, share progress, and stay motivated. Whether you're new to this or turning side gigs into a full-time income, it's a space to connect, co-work, and grow together. Discord link: https://discord.gg/SY7YzphswE
